Collection of Specimen for Bacteriological Examination:
Laboratory tests are very helpful in confirming the diagnosis of a disease. But it is important to collect samples correctly and at the right time. Improper collection of specimens, mislabeling, or delays in sending specimens may cause unnecessary suffering to the patient and may even increase the risk of disease transmission.
General rules for collection of samples:
1) Whatever is most likely to be the source of infection should be collected. A sample of the discharge should be taken before it is cleaned and treated.
2) It should be collected using aseptic technique in a sterile container or on a very clean glass slide.
3) Anti-Septic or Disinfectant and water should not be mixed with the collected specimen.
4) The outside of the container should not come in contact with the sample to be collected. Only then will contamination of those handling the sample be avoided.
(5) A proper ID card should be pasted on the specimen and the full name address and/or Chnic number of the person should be written and the specimens and ID cards should not be interchanged.
(6) ALIN samples should be sent immediately to the test road. mother
Blood Smears:
Thick and thin smears are collected from people with fever to check for malaria parasites. A thick blood smear is needed to test for Microflaria.
Necessary materials :
Hagedorm Needle Spirit Swabs Glass strips and pencil
(1). Method :
✨Hold the middle finger of the left hand. (Sterile)Hagadarn puncture with needle. Clean the tip. To create a thin blood film, collect a drop of fresh blood in the middle of a glass strip and use the tip of another glass strip to rub the blood widely.
✨The tip of the second glass strip should be quickly rubbed and pulled from the middle of the first strip to its left.
✨Three drops of blood should be dropped on the other end of another glass strip to form a thick blood film. Using the corner of another glass strip, mix the drops of blood and form a circle about 1 cm in diameter and let the strip dry.
✨The tabel should be wrapped in a piece of paper. It should be sent to the test road with the required form.
(2) Throat Swabs:
✨Culture is required to confirm the diagnosis of pharyngeal obstruction. Micronize a test tube containing CultureMedia from the test strip A Sterile Swab Stick should be purchased and kept.
✨Wearing a mask (Musk) and holding the tongue of the patient with the handle of the tongue depressor, the patient's tongue should be pressed down, examine the throat in a good light, take a cotton swab and touch it to the top of the throat or the tonsils.
(3) Pus or discharge coating :
✨A smear may be taken from an infected eye, ulcer, cervix or rectum. A fine-grained cotton ball is used to collect a sample of the tissue from which it is collected on a glass slide.
✨Then the glass strip should be dried, the identity card affixed and sent to the test road.
(4) Urine :
✨A sterile specimen is collected by catheterization for bacteriological testing.
✨Mid-Stream Sample: A small amount of urine is passed and then a mid-stream urine sample is collected in a sterile vial or test tube.
(5) Stool sample :
✨An abnormal stool sample should be collected with a small stick and carefully placed in a specimen bottle. Close the vial, attach the identification card, and wash your hands.
✨If Amoebic Dysentery is present, a fresh stool sample is required. Because amoeba and parasite eggs (cysts) can only be seen when the stool is still warm.
✨The specimen should be marked as Fresh Specimen and sent for testing immediately. or kept warm until tested.
